Cleaning and surface preparation are critical for perfect quality of finished parts and selecting the right process has never been so important as customers seek better quality and performance for their coatings. Several parameters are involved and it is important to consider all the various options to get the best cleaning process.
The formulation of a detergent takes into account the substrate specifics as well as the impurities to be removed from the surface. The steps before and after the cleaning process are also critical to defining the process.
Even sensitive metal parts can be safely and efficiently cleaned in a water based cleaning system without damaging the substrate and without using problematic solvents. This is done by using advanced protective additives.

The Cleaning products are the result of many years of detailed R&D carried out for numerous top companies involved in high-end technology. One such company, BTG optimizes the machining of its blades for the paper industry, thanks to NGL Cleaning Technology solutions. The company, located in Eclépens (Switzerland), exports its equipment for the paper industry worldwide. It uses the Decofloc and Decospray product lines of NGL Cleaning Technology SA. The blades can be used for:
- Creping paper (Handkerchief and toilet paper)
- Coating the paper (Suitable for printing paper)
- Wiping the Anilox rolls for flexographic printing
During manufacturing the blades are ground on CNC machines to ensure the desired profile. A water-based coolant cools the grinding wheels. They use around 60,000 l/hr in closed circuit. The cooling fluid must be continuously purified to maintain its quality. For a long time this cleaning operation was ensured by about fifteen centrifuges which required frequent repairs and daily maintenance. The energy bills exceeded 30,000 Swiss Francs per year.
Tasked with finding an alternative process for the water treatment, refining the chemistry in order to reach the customer's tough requirements. Recycling is now performed in recovery tanks using an adapted flocculent developed by NGL Cleaning Technology and the liquid flows by gravity on a paper filter that holds the sludge. Christian Wittwer of BTG is delighted with the process, commenting “this new system cannot be compared to the previous: We get a much higher quality of recycled solution, and in addition, our energy bill has dropped significantly. As for maintenance, it is as rare as it is easy.”
Finally, to further improve the surface finish, certain coatings require additional final surface treatment. The elimination of residues from the treatment is carried out in a custom facility using the Decospray line of products, which are also working very effectively.
