Abrasive Stones

Gesswein
Abrasive Stones are designed to be used directly after machining
or spark eroding in the preparation of surfaces for final polishing.
Among
the stone types available are :-
MF
Mouldmaker

(Grey/Blue), soft-bonded Silicon Carbide, which constantly presents
fresh sharp edged particles to the work material. These stones produce
fast stock removal and are widely used on hardened steel surfaces,
as well as to rough finish non-ferrous materials. Excellent for
contours. Generally used by hand.
MFP
Mouldmaker Plus

(Grey/Blue),
slightly harder than MF, the MFP cuts well with slower breakdown.
It is a good choice for contours and radii, and generates a silky
matt surface on hardened steels. Can be used on non-ferrous materials.
May be used by hand or in a profiler.
EDM

(Orange)
stones are designed to remove the tough hard scale left by ElectroDischarge
Machining. These stones contain extra sharp particles of Aluminium
Oxide, together with a small amount of Chromium Oxide, within a
special bond, which enables them to follow contours. May be used
by hand, or in a profiler.
EDM
Blue

(Blue)
stones are a natural development from the extremely popular EDM
(orange) stones. Due to the inclusion of a small amount of cobalt,
they are harder than EDM, maintaining their strength even in small
section sizes, with good resistance to loading. Excellent for use
in profiling or ultrasonic machines. EDM Blue stones break down
slowly and cut fast. Very good for detailed work.
ROX
Rough Out

(Dark
grey) stones are large, relatively soft stones designed for maximum
cutting with fairly fast breakdown. Used to remove rough machining
marks or for "hogging" out material prior to the finishing process.
DF
Diemaker

(Beige/light
brown) This range of stones has established itself as one of the
most popular in use today. Fast cutting with moderate breakdown,
the DF can be used on both hard and soft steels, and is also suitable
for some non-ferrous materials. Able to be used by hand or in profiling
machines.
WP
stones

Breakdown
rapidly and are excellent at removing light scratches, or for use
prior to polishing with diamond compound.
RA
(brown) stones

Manufactured
from very hard Aluminium Oxide within a resin bond to give flexibility
and resilience. Excellent for corners, deep ribs and areas of fine
detail, these stones produce a finer finish than other stones of
the same grit. RA
stones are extremely versatile and may be used by hand, or with
profiler or ultrasonic.
OT
Oil Treated (white)

These
stones have been increasing in popularity over recent years. Able
to be used on hard or soft mould and die steels, OT
stones are made from white premium grade Aluminium Oxide, in a medium/hard
bond, which is soaked in oil during the manufacturing process. This
enables the stones to be used, if required, without lubrication.
OT stones maintain good shape during use, and are excellent for
processing machined or even EDM surfaces. Good for use in profiling
machines.
US
Ultra-Soft (White)

Specially
developed for use on soft and nonferrous metals, with excellent
results obtained on Aluminium in particular. Manufactured with an
extra soft bond, the US stone shapes readily to contours. Fast cutting
without loading. Recommended for use by hand only.
SF (Super Fine)

Made of levigated alumina, SF series has a
very rapid breakdown and does not scratch. An excellent stone for
P20 and P40 SS, use the SF for final finish prior to diamond polishing.
PW
(Premium White)

Hard general purpose polishing stone, made
of pure white premium Aluminium oxide abrasive, for use on all steels
from hard to softer. Exposed sharp grains cause the stone to cut
well. Good shape retention for finishing surface details. A special
additive makes this stone load resistant. Both our PW and OT stones
work well in a profiler and ultrasonic polisher.
CF
(Classic)

The original Diemaker stone formulated in
the puddled process preferred by traditional polishers. A puddled
stone has more sharp cutting edges and acts more aggressive while
resisting loading. Made of finely graded Aluminium oxide. Classic
produces a uniform surface on all types of steel. Can be used in
a profiler or ultrasonic polisher.
Gesswein
Stones are available and priced in boxes of 12, with selected types
also available within introductory Kits or in Pencil Stone Kits.
Xebec
Ceramic Stones

Usage:
Perfect
for Precise finishing of detailed surfaces, curves, ribs, bosses,
etc., of various forming dies (especially plastic dies).
High finishing efficiency can be attained without clogging, even
for metals such as aluminum, copper, gun metal, etc., which clogs
with common finishers.
Use on narrow areas where other stones cannot be used because of
breaking.
Use
on complex shapes where uniform finishing could not be attained.
Meister Finisher finishes coarse surfaces after electro-discharge
machining.
Features:
High
finishing efficiency is realised by the crystal structure of the
alumina fibres, which is optimum for finishing.
Finishing
efficiency and strength have been improved by the two way liner
structure, which prevents side slipping.
High
accuracy of surfaces can be attained by the uniform fibre diameter.
No
dropping of abrasive grain particles that can create linear scratches.
Little
heat generation that minimises workpiece alteration and finisher
deterioration.
Various
finisher shapes can be used according to purpose.

G-Flex Wheels

The
Gesswein range of G-Flex Mounted Wheels are manufactured from the
finest quality materials. These wheels can be dressed with a file
to various shapes, their slight resilience keeps them from being
too aggressive, they maintain their shape and do not clog, their
nonloading and resilient characteristics enable abrading and finishing
to be completed in one operation. Ideal in size and shape, their
versatility enables them to be used in a variety of ways from polishing
mould runners to forming and polishing the interiors of fine gold
rings. Safety is an additional feature, the muslin laminates run
parallel to the shank preventing the end from chipping.
Gesswein
Belt Sticks

1/4",
1/2" & 3/4 An inexpensive hand tool to complement our range of other
precision surface finishing products. Each plastic holder allows
a narrow abrasive belt to be quickly fitted. As the abrasive wears,
the belt can be easily inched round to expose fresh abrasive. The
overall design of this tool makes it extremely useful for the dressing
of irregular profiles. The holders are colour coded to promote correlation
with the different abrasives thus:- Red (120 grit), green (240 grit),
blue 320 grit), yellow (400 grit) and black (600 grit).
Kemet
Stone Holders

Several
types of Holders are available to suit many popular sizes of Gesswein
(and other) abrasive stones, together with Xebec Ceramic Stones,
Ruby Stones and lapping sticks.
The range includes Holders for use with reciprocating action machines.
Some Holders have fixed axis shanks, some have variable axis shanks.
For types are available for use by hand. Please Contact
Us for details.
Kemet
Stoning Oil
To
ensure peak performance from your Gesswein Abrasive Stones, or indeed
from most other types of abrasive stones, we have developed environmentally
friendly Kemet Stoning Oil. Supplied in 2.5 litre or 5 litre containers.
