Kemet Cut-off Wheels

 

Standard Abrasive Cut-off Wheels

Abrasive cut-off wheels available in 152mm (6"), 178mm (7"), 229mm (9"), 254mm (10"), 305mm (12") and 356mm (14"), 406mm (16"). Wheels are designed to give best possible burr free sectioning. It is recommended that Kemet Soluble Fluid for recirculating cooling systems is used.

Aluminium Oxide Cut-off Wheels

Aluminium Oxide Abrasive wheels are recommended for sectioning hard, medium and soft metals, ferrous alloys and tool steels.


Silicon Carbide Cut-off Wheels

Silicon Carbide wheels are recommended for sectioning medium and soft non-ferrous metals, hard non-metallics, titanium alloys and ceramics.


Diamond Cut-off Wheels

Diamond coated sample preparation cut-off wheels available in high or low concentrations in 76mm (3"), 102mm (4"), 127mm (5"), 152 (6") and 178mm (7") diameters. It is recommended that Kemet Universal Cutting Fluid is used.



High Concentration Diamond Cut-off Wheels
Recommended for routine use on most metals and ceramics.

Low Concentration Diamond Cut-off Wheels
Recommended for use with brittle materials such as glass and ceramics. Available in two types: Standard, (for use on iron and cobalt Base Alloys) and CBN for hard materials.

Cold Mounting Resin Systems

Cold Mounting Resin Systems


Cold mounting systems are used when speed and ease and required, especially for high volume production. Also used for samples that are easily damaged by heat and pressure generated in compression mounting systems. We sell 3 types of cold mounting system: acrylic, epoxy and polyester

Acrylic Resins

Acrylic resins are supplied separately and in two part kits consisting of powder and liquid.   Hardening times are less than 10 minutes at 20°C. Various types are available:-

  • Acrylic CLB (Black) is for conductive mounts for delicate samples
  • Acrylic VLST (Translucent)
  • Acrylic VLB (Blue)
  • Acrylic VLXB (Blue)
  • Acrylic Yellow (Yellow)

Epoxy Resins

Epoxy kits comprise of resin and catalyst. Various types available

  • Epoxy VLT (Transparent). Hardening time of 12 hours at 25°C
  • Epoxy VLS (Transparent). Requires a vacuum to cure. Hardening time of 3 hours at 50°C

Polyester Resins

Polyester PLT kit (transparent) comprises of resin and catalyst. Hardening time of 90 minutes at 20°C

Hot Mounting Systems


Hot Mounting Systems

Hot mounting systems require a Hot Mounting Press.

Hot embedding resins are extremely hard, acid resistant and low-shrinkage. They reduce sweating and guarantee clean edges when polishing. Hot embedded resins are available in powder form and are divided into two categories:-

  • Thermoresistant (Phenolic or Allylic)
  • Thermoplastic (Acrylic or Epoxy)

Thermoresistant Resins

Phenolic - available in Black, Green, red, Brown and white colour. Standard examination of all materials

Thermoplastic Resins

Allylic - blue colour. Examination of edges

Acrylic - transparent. Standard examination of all materials

Epoxy - Black colour. Examination of edges

Silicon Carbide Waterproof Abrasive Discs, Rolls and Papers

Non-adhesive discs, rolls and papers for the initial stages of metallographic preparations, available in a variety of sizes, dimensions and grits.

Bramet

Self-adhesive, waterproof silicon carbide papers. No need for clamping or gluing, saving time when changing grit sizes.

Available in diameters up to 305mm and strip form 75x275mm and 305x305mm in grit sizes 60 to 4000.

Abrasive Belts
Abrasive Belts for the initial preparation of metallographic specimens. Available with either Aluminium Oxide or Zirconia Alumina abrasives. The dimensions for all belts are 100mm x 915mm.

Kemet Diaflex

Self-Adhesive Flexible Diamond Material combines the long life and aggressive cutting action of diamond with the flexibility of cloth. Supplied in either discs or squares, and a wide range of grades, it is used in the plane grinding stages of metallographic preparation. The diamond is either nickel bonded (N) or resin bonded (R).

Kemflex

A new product that makes the grinding process easier for most materials, by linking up a revolutionary support system with various grinding discs. Thanks to Kemflex Fix, you will no longer have to use a magnet or self-adhesive support. No more fastidious un-sticking or disposal of waste from magnetic systems.

Polishing Cloths / Polishing Pads

 

Kemet Chemo-textile Polishing Pads

Manufactured to the highest standards with accurately controlled uniform thickness. Self-adhesive, and available medium ( PSU-M ) and hard ( PSU-H ) and extra hard ( PAD-K ) formats. Chem Cloth is also available for Chemomechanical Polishing.

PSU-M & PSU-H
The medium chemo-textile cloth for smoothing and polishing operation. Commonly used with Kemet Diamond Compound 14 micron and finer.

PAD-K
The ultra-hard chemo-textile cloth used where fast cutting is needed. Used with Kemet Diamond Compound 25 micron and finer. Also available perforated.

CHEM
This is the recommended cloth for Chemo-mechanical Polishing operations using Kemet Polishing Powders and Suspensions.

Kemet Silk-Type Polishing Pads

Kemet Silk-Type cloths have been developed for finishing metallic specimens and components. This range of synthetic silk pads with durable woven structure produce flat mirror surfaces on stainless steels, stellite and many other metails.

The seven types available are ASFL-AW, ASF-AW, MSFL, MSF, MSR, MST & ULP.

ASFL-AW
For optimum flat mirror polishing of many metals. This pad is available with adhesive resistance to oil or water, to suit the poilshing abrasive being used.

ASF-AW
This silk pad has self-adhesive cloth backing which is resistant to water. It produces mirror surfaces, but it is more suitable to cosmetic finishes on products where flatness is not crucial.

MSFL
Will polish metallic specimens flat, and to a mirror finish. Best results are obtained when used with Kemet Diamond Suspension or Compound 3 micron and finer. Water resistant adhesive (oil resistant available).

MSF
Similar to MSFL, but with a thicker, softer adhesive backing and plastic barrier which is resistant to most fluids.

MSR
Similar to MSFL but with rigid plastic backing.

MST
An extra hard, rigid silk cloth for increased cutting action.

ULP

A heavy duty nylon pad for high stock removal.

 

Kemet Nap Type Polishing Pads

For final polishing stages of preparation, Kemet Nap Type Cloths are available with a range of softness and nap length. They give a more gentle polish and are ideal for softer specimens and components.

A cotton cloth of medium nap pile. Available only as non-adhesive.

Chem H

For use with a chemical mechanical polishing process with colloidal silica suspension.

METACUT 250 and METACUT 350 are designed for wet cutting of large and small, regularly or irregularly shaped workpieces of metallic, ceramic or composite materials.

METACUT 250 has the capacity to cut solid sections up to 90 mm in diameter. The cutting capacity of METACUT 350 is 130 mm. The side access port permits the sectioning of extra-long workpieces.

Summary Table

After cutting the specimen, the next step is mounting. The aim of mounting is to handle small or odd shaped specimens and to protect fragile materials, thin layers or coating during preparation as well as to provide good edge retention. Mounting produces specimens with uniform size so that it is easier to handle in automatic holders for further preparation steps.

Basically, two methods are available:

  • Hot Mounting
  • Cold Mounting

In hot mounting, the specimen is mounted under heat and pressure with a hot mounting press.

Cold mounting is preferred for samples which are sensitive to damage from heat and pressure (like coatings, PCB, etc.) Cold mounting resins are easy to use and require mixing which is then poured into a mould and allowed to set.

METAPRESS-P

Programmable Automatic Mounting Press, microprocessor controlled, program based mounting sequences, electrohydraulic pressure and drive system(requires no air), programmable pressure up to 310 bar, programmable temperature up to 240°C and programmable operation time up to 59:99 minutes, thermostatically controlled heating power of 850 W, automatic cooling cycle with two modes of cooling rates(fast cooling and slow cooling), programmable preheating and preloading, selectable mould sizes from 25 mm to 50 mm, audible warning signal, large LCD screen and touch-pad front panel.

METAPRESS-A

Automatic Mounting Press, fully automatic microprocessor controlled operation, touch pad front panel controls and digital display of heating time, molding temperature, cooling temperature, ram up/down, auto/manual cooling, cycle start/stop and a direct reading pressure gauge. In order to obtain a highly reflective surface that is free from scratches and deformation, the specimens must be carefully ground and polished before they can be examined under the microscope.

FORCIPOL Series of instruments are available as Single wheel and Dual wheel Units (200/250/300 mm wheel size). Both single or double wheel versions are available with constant, dual or variable rotating speeds with digital display. This allows the setting of the optimum speed for each individual preparation process.

When the number of specimens to be prepared increases, FORCIPOL instruments can be fitted with FORCIMAT automatic head for automation. FORCIMAT automatic head provides high rate of sample preparation and frees the operator from the grinding and polishing procedures.

Geological Cutting Machine, for sectioning of rock, ceramics, minerals, glass, concrete with Z-axis cutting wheel positioning and table-feed cutting system, manual positioning of the specimen in X and Y axis, X-Y table bed and cross feed table for cutting of plane parallel sections, mechanical display of cutting thickness, cutting capacity up to 90/100 mm solid stock, for diamond wheels up to ø250/300mm, 6,4 HP compact cutting motor, electronic brake system, interlocking safety switch for hood, bottom part as rugged alloy base casting, 80 litre recirculating cooling unit with clean-out and connection hoses, ready for operation. Supplied without clamping devices.

Precision Thin Section Cutting and Grinding Machine, for fast and precise material removal of Petrographic thin sections, vacuum chuck to hold a variety of slide dimensions, vacuum pump with gauge and filter, separate cutting and grinding compartments, corrosion free aluminium cast base, front panel controls, micrometer for precise grinding off material from the sample on the slide, recirculating cooling unit, for diamond cutting wheels up to 200 mm. in dia., complete and ready for operation. Supplied without diamond cutting and grinding wheels.

Automatic Specimen Mover, for the preparation of mineralogical specimens, Microprocessor controlled, pneumatically adjustable individual force loading system, up to 6 specimens, 90 Watt DC motor, low rotational speed of 35 rpm, front panel with touch-pad controls, audible warning signal, steel mounting column and with LUBOMAT automatic and exchangable drip lubricator.
